Idiap awards 2021

The Institute nominates every year two students for its internal awards. In 2021, the Best Paper Award goes to Suhan Shetty, and the Best Student Award goes to Parvaneh Janbakhshi. Congratulations!

For his paper in robotics entitled “Ergodic Exploration using Tensor Train: Applications in Insertion Tasks”, Suhan Shetty received Idiap’s Best Paper Award. He demonstrated in this article that robots could cope with uncertainties and limited vision sensing capability by tactile exploration. He developed a fast and efficient search strategy based on so called ergodic control, used in manipulation tasks requiring the insertion of objects. Suhan is in the Robot Learning & Interaction group.

Parvaneh Janbakhshi joined Idiap in 2018 as a PhD student and received Institute’s Best Student Award. During her PhD, Janbakhshi made significant novel contributions to the field of automatic pathological speech processing. Her publications have been very well received by the community, as shown by the positive reviewer comments and the positive audience feedback in conferences. Janbakhshi is in the Speech & Audio Processing group.
