AIDA – The International AI Doctoral Academy has been launched

A new pan-European doctoral academy has the ambition to become a reference in AI education.

The International AI Doctoral Academy (AIDA) was launched on November 3, 2021. AIDA brings together 67 European partners in the AI domain who have joined efforts with the 5 Horizon Europe ICT48 AI flagship projects to foster PhD education excellence in AI (AI4Media, ELISE, HUMANE-AI, TAILOR, and VISION.) The AIDA alliance includes 50 universities and 17 research institutes and companies. Idiap Research Institute is one of the founding members, and Prof. Daniel Gatica-Perez (Social Computing Group) serves as representative.

AIDA has critical mass to have impact on AI academic education, industry workforce upskilling, and tackling social challenges, ranging from the fight against disinformation to the provision of trustworthy AI that serves not only European citizens but worldwide. AIDA can also contribute to European strategic autonomy regarding critical AI technology, and provide a virtual shared facility offering access to knowledge and expertise and attracting talented researchers. AIDA is expected to boost a much-needed link between AI and the humanities to consolidate a human-centered European brand that caters societal and industrial needs for a diverse, democratic Europe.

AIDA is coordinated by Prof. Ioannis Pitas from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece.
