The last cycle of Amazon Research Awards announced 26 awards recipients. Among them, Damien Teney was selected for his project to improve machine learning models.
Machine learning
Our application domains include object detection and scene analysis, tracking of people and biological structures, and image recognition in general.
Group News
Former Idiap PhD Angelos Katharopoulos has received EPFL's Electrical Engineering Doctoral program (EEDE) Thesis Award for his outstanding research on the efficiency of deep learning models.
Idiap Research Institute and the School of Engineering at EPFL invite applications for the directorship of Idiap. The successful candidate will also hold a faculty position as full professor at EPFL School of Engineering.
Suraj Srinivas and Weipeng He received the 2021 PhD Thesis Distinction in Electrical Engineering by the EPFL.
In his research work, Idiap student, Suraj Srinivas proposes gradient-based methods for characterizing model behavior for the purposes of knowledge transfer and post-hoc model interpretation. Broadly, gradients capture the variation of some output feature of the model upon unit variation of an input feature, and thus encodes the local model behavior while being agnostic to the underlying model architectural choices.
