Scientific report 2025

The Institute is pleased to present its annual scientific report, which highlights selected research outcomes from its research programs —Human–AI Teaming, Sustainable and Resilient Societies, AI for Life, and AI for Everyone— as well as from its fundamental AI research, which underpins all programs and advances the state of the art in machine learning.

Key contributions include advances in machine learning foundations (efficient neural architectures and improved generalisation), progress in Large Language Models and Foundation Models from analysis to performance and robustness improvements, privacy-preserving and trustworthy AI (synthetic data generation and fairness in healthcare and security), Human-centred AI (gaze modelling, social robotics and AI-supported therapy and clinical assessment), AI for scientific discovery and robotics (physics-informed models), AI for resilient societies, spanning cybersecurity and fraud detection, speech recognition in adverse environments, and energy system analysis, AI for health and the environment, with tools supporting medical diagnosis, ecological analysis, and societal well-being, among others. 

This report reflects the Institute’s continued commitment to responsible AI research and its ability to contribute to scientific progress while addressing pressing societal challenges.
