Research on silicone face mask attacks rewarded by the IAPR Best Paper Award

The prestigious International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR) bestowed it Best Paper Award during its International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics. Idiap Biometrics security and privacy research group was among the authors of the awarded paper.

How custom silicon masks can be used to fool commercial face recognition system? This Hollywood inspired topic was part of the research presented during the 7th IAPR International Workshop on Biometrics and Forensics (IWBF 2019) by Sebastien Marcel and his colleagues. Hosted a few days ago by the Instituto Politecnico Nacional, in Cancun, Mexico, this event awarded the prestigious best paper award to this very unique article. The paper was co-authored between the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Idiap research Institute and the broader context of the Secure Access Control over Wide Area Network (SWAN) project.
