Hatef Otroshi Receives Best Doctoral Dissertation Award

The IEEE Biometrics Council has recognized Hatef Otroshi Shareza, postdoctoral researcher in the Biometric Security and Privacy group at Idiap, with the Best Doctoral Dissertation Award for the outstanding quality and impact of his research.

His dissertation, titled “On the Information in Deep Biometric Templates: from Vulnerability of Unprotected Templates to Leakage in Protected Templates”, addresses critical issues in the security and privacy of biometric systems.

This prestigious award is presented annually to a single doctoral graduate whose dissertation makes a significant contribution to the field of biometrics. It highlights innovative research that advances scientific understanding, demonstrates technical excellence, and has the potential to shape future developments in biometric recognition and security.

Hatef’s work aligns with the objectives of the Sustainable and Resilient Society research program, which aims to develop technologies and systems that enhance societal security, privacy, and resilience in the digital age, while demonstrating the excellence of Idiap’s research in the field.
