New opening for a PhD position in machine learning for semantic document retrieval

The Idiap Research Institute seeks qualified candidates for one PhD position in machine learning for semantic document retrieval.

The position is funded by the Hasler Stiftung. The duration of the appointment is for a maximum of 4 years with a competitive PhD salary. The position is available from January 2012 onwards. Starting date is negotiable.

Topic: We are interested in leveraging recent advances in natural language processing techniques related to semantic text analysis, for semantic document retrieval. The student will investigate new semantic document representations (following recent work in deep learning machine-learning techniques) which can be efficiently distributed, as well as new search algorithms for finding a document given a semantically meaningful query. The student will have to implement the new algorithms in an efficient manner (hence, excellent C programming skills are mandatory).
