Idiap has a new opening for a Senior Researcher position in Energy Informatics
The Idiap Research Institute is an independent, not-for-profit, research institute, affiliated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne (EPFL). Building on strong signal processing and machine learning expertise, the Institute carries out advanced R&D activities in the field of human and media computing, including perceptual and cognitive systems, speech and language processing, computer vision, information interfaces and presentation, social/human behavior, biometric person recognition, robotics, and biological imaging.
Idiap currently invites applications for an additional permanent Senior Researcher position focusing on the new area of “Energy Informatics” (ICT applied to energy management, smart energy-saving systems, smart grids, etc.).
The main focus of this search is for highly qualified candidates, with evidence of strong research, PhD student supervision, and project management capabilities. Applicants should also demonstrate evidence of the ability to pursue an independent program of research, a strong commitment to both graduate and undergraduate teaching, the ability to initiate and conduct research across disciplines, and to perform technology transfer.
The Institute is especially interested in those candidates committed to novel theories and applications of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT), machine learning and signal processing, while contributing to the diversification of Idiap’s activities by bringing expertise in the area of Energy ICT. Leveraging on Idiap’s expertise areas, topics of particular interest include (but are not limited to) energy optimization and control, distributed systems, and big data management.
The successful candidate is expected to initiate independent, creative R&D; programs at the Idiap Research Institute, possibly in collaboration with EPFL and CREM. As part of our affiliation with EPFL, duties could also include the participation in undergraduate and graduate teaching in Lausanne. Given the links between Idiap and EPFL, academic careers can also be considered for exceptional candidates. In that context, candidates should demonstrate that they compare well with peers either on tenure track or having secured a tenured (associate professor) position.
Idiap offers internationally competitive salaries and benefits. For additional supporting information about Idiap and our activities, see http://www.idiap.ch. Further information about EPFL and CREM can respectively be found at http://www.epfl.ch and http://www.crem.ch/.
Applications should be submitted in electronic form exclusively through Idiap's Online Recruitment System at http://www.idiap.ch/education-and-jobs. Screening will start on February 1st, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. Interested individuals should include their full CV, together with a list of publications, a concise (max 2 pages) statement of medium-to-long-term research vision, and the names and addresses, with e-mail, of five referees.
