Leonardo Andrea Bisogno Bernardini, MSc is a PhD student at the University of Pisa, in the Department of Energy, Systems, Territory and Construction Engineering. He graduated in Building Engineering with full marks (110/110) in February 2023, defending a thesis titled "Impact of the Use of Heat Pump Generators on the Urban Environment from a Thermal and Acoustic Perspective", under the supervision of Prof. Giacomo Salvadori, PhD and Prof. Francesco Leccese, PhD. His thesis developed a simplified method for estimating the impact of heat pumps on the urban soundscape and microclimate.
In March 2023, he was awarded a six-month research grant by ENEA, for a project entitled "Development of a Database of Sound Emissions from Heat Pumps Used in Residential Buildings", which outlined the acoustic and thermal characteristics of these generators in Italy and Europe.
In November 2023, he was awarded a PhD scholarship for a project focused on the "Development of Innovative Methodologies for the Analysis of Energy Consumption in Hospital Buildings", under the supervision of Prof. Giacomo Salvadori, PhD and Prof. Umberto Desideri, PhD. The project focuses on predictive models based on grey-box approaches to estimate the energy consumption of complex structures, such as existing hospital facilities.
Since July 1st, 2025, he is undertaking an internship at the IDIAP Research Institute with the "Energy Informatics" research group led by Prof. Jérôme Kämpf, PhD.
From March 2021 to March 2023, he collaborated with Fondazione Pezzini Onlus in Lucca, contributing to the design of an energy-efficient social residence for self-sufficient elderly people, with a usable area of 2400 m².
