Social computing integrates theories and models from ubiquitous computing, social media, machine learning, and social sciences, to sense, analyze, and interpret human and social behavior in everyday life, and to create devices and systems that support interaction and communication.

At IDIAP, I am currently investigating the problem of Ubiquitous First Impressions. In particular I am interested in automatic analysis of human affective state using speech signals to quantify first impressions. In addition, I am also exploring various wearable devices in ubotrusive effect recognition. This research is funded by the Sinergia interdisciplinary program of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) within the framework of the UBImpressed project.
