Research

Bio

John received his B.Eng. degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia in 1998 and the Ph.D. degree from the Queensland University of Technology, Australia in 2003. Since March 2003 he has been employed at the IDIAP Research Institute as a research scientist.

Current Research

  • Front-end processing for LVCSR (feature extraction and speech activity detection)
  • Pronunciation dictionary generation for LVCSR (using automatic and computer-assisted means)
  • Design of fast/efficient training paradigms for hybrid speech recognition systems
  • Waveform synthesis for speech synthesis/speech coding (HNM)
  • Parametric speech synthesis (HTS)
