||R&D Engineer in Speech Processing (OP-20190225-111840)
To further advance our research and development along with technology transfer activities, the Idiap Research Institute seeks one or more R&D engineers. The R&D engineer can be thought of either as a development engineer with some research responsibilities, or as a technology-transfer focussed researcher. The ideal candidate would be educated to masters level, although we will consider exceptional bachelors graduates. PhD graduates not seeking an academic career would also be highly competitive candidates. Within the institute, the R&D engineer is employed within the development group, with the associated infrastructure and software support; however, the R&D engineer is also aligned closely with one or more research groups, providing expertise in deep learning or speech and image processing.
The role is grounded in the center of the current AI revolution, involving application of cutting edge deep learning technology to real world problems. It will involve working both with some of the biggest technology enterprises in Switzerland and Europe, as well as with the researchers driving the forefront of the revolution. Candidates should have experience of recent deep learning toolkits such as PyTorch, Keras and TensorFlow, or show a clear ability to be able to learn such frameworks. Other software engineering tools and languages such as python, C++, version control and unit-testing should be considered as prerequisites.
* Degree in electrical engineering or computer science (or equivalent)
* Strong experience in C/C++ programming under Linux environment
* Good knowledge in mathematics and statistics
* Good knowledge of Python
* Creative, open-minded and ability to work within a team
* Good communication skills in English
* Masters or PhD level degree
* French language ability
* Experience in machine learning algorithms, deep learning and big data
* Experience in computer vision, speech processing, and biometrics
* Interest in multi-platform development (Windows, Linux, Mac)
* Interest in high-performance (GPU) computing

The positions are offered either as one year fixed term or as permanent contracts, depending on the candidate and our funding outlook.
