Open position's detailed data
Type: Internship Name (ID): Internship in Segmentation and Delineation of medical images using (deep) Holistically-nested Edge Detectors (OP-20181221-093051) Supervised by: André RABELLO DOS ANJOS
The Idiap Research Institute invites applications for one internship position in biosignal processing. In this project, the intern will make use of Holistically-nested Edge Detectors (HED, https://www.cv-foundation.org/openaccess/content_iccv_2015/papers/Xie_Holistically-Nested_Edge_Detection_ICCV_2015_paper.pdf) for two tasks: (i) the detection of curvilinear regions of interest in images (finger in fingervein datasets, optical disc in eye-fundus imagery) and (ii) the extraction of vessel networks in eye-fundus imagery. Specifically, we will work on the problem of multi-resolution inputs (images with different resolutions): mitigating or solving issues related to high-resolution input images provided to models trained with lower-resolution ground-truth.
The work will consist in:
Conducting experiments with HED networks for the tasks described above on public or locally available datasets Consolidating, documenting and publishing **reproducible code** and database iterators for these tasks Further developing the Bob framework (https://www.idiap.ch/software/bob) - sub-products will integrate its existing software stack
Ideal candidates should follow a M.Sc. program or hold a M.Sc. degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related fields. They should have a background in statistics or applied mathematics, optimisation, linear algebra and signal processing with an interest to machine learning (deep neural networks) and medical applications. Applicants are expected to have strong programming skills and be familiar with Python (tensorflow specific knowledge is a plus), shell programming, and with the Linux environment. Knowledge in C/C++ programming, image processing, and machine learning will be considered as strong assets. Shortlisted candidates may undergo a series of tests including technical reading and writing in English and programming (in Python).
Appointment for the position is for 6 months. Salary is 2'000 CHF per month. Starting date is as soon as possible, but no later than June 2019.
