SenseCityVity: new project is presented in Mexico EN-CONTRADOS Magazine

“Observe, feel, and share” Is the slogan of the new collaborative project between Mexico and Switzerland, SenseCityVity, presented on Monday evening in the city of Guanajuato by Dr. Salvador Ruiz Correa, Co-Director of the Center for Mobile Life Studies (CMLS), researcher at CIMAT and Professor at IPICYT (Instituto Potosino de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica.) The objective of this project is to get young people of Guanajuato city to improve the urban surrounding using mobile devices, focusing around a methodology where both scientific thinking and community action join forces for the greater good.

The project contemplates three stages: The first consists in organizing a group of 100 students from the CECYTEG school in smaller groups, so they use their knowledge to detect social problems. Once these are identified, the second stage will commence, which is structured around a four-week long collection of multimedia data obtained with mobile devices, which will allow critical reflection by the students, who will create documentaries to generate problem-solving ideas.

In the third and final stage, the documentaries with be showcased in the city, an activity organized so that the hard work done and the ideas created by the students can be seen and shared with the community.

The project involves the participation of an international group of specialists, with backing of EPFL UNESCO CODEV Chair in the areas of: Information and Computer Science, Sociology, Psychology, Media Communication, and Visual Arts; all of whom are working together towards improving life in the city of Guanajuato.
