New opening for a PhD position in semantic indexing and retrieval of networked media
A doctoral research position is available at Idiap starting November 1st, 2011, for the EU-funded project InEvent, “Accessing Dynamic Networked Multimedia Events”, headed by Prof. Hervé Bourlard. The duration of the appointment is for a maximum of 4 years, with a competitive PhD salary. The successful candidate will be enrolled in one of EPFL’s doctoral programs, either the Electrical Engineering Doctoral School (EDEE) or the Informatics and Communication Doctoral School (EDIC).
The goal of the PhD thesis will be to design and implement novel algorithms for indexing and searching complex multimedia structures that characterize events such as lectures or meetings. The work will use the networked structure of the data by building and exploiting links between various facets of the events in order to define measures of relatedness between them. The work will rely in particular on the language content of recordings and related documents, and on user-generated information as well. The goal is to support several ways of searching, e.g. keyword-based or example-based. The algorithms will be applied to real-world data in the InEvent project.
